Texans sign CB Jonathan Joseph to five-year deal

The Houston Texans have signed cornerback Jonathan Joseph away from the Cincinnati Bengals with a five-year, $48.75 million contract. The deal also includes a $12.5 million signing bonus. In his five seasons, Joseph has emerged as one of the top corners in the game. He has 14 interceptions and 76 passes deflected in his career. The Texans finished last in the league with 267.5 passing yards allowed per game. They also surrendered 18 pass plays of 40-plus yards, by far the highest total in the NFL. Adding a cornerback was obviously a top priority.

Fantasy Analysis:

Although he has missed a total of 12 games in the last three seasons, Joseph is still worth the money if he can continue to play to his potential. In 2009, he was a solid choice as an IDP cornerback with 70 total tackles, six picks and 20 PD. But in general, he's much more valuable in "real life" than in fantasy. The Texans use a very different defensive scheme than the Bengals so anyone thinking about adding Joseph to their roster should understand that production is almost always different on a new team.
