Falcons release WR Michael Jenkins
Coming into this season, it was pretty much assumed that rookie wideout Julio Jones would jump over Michael Jenkins
and become the Atlanta Falcons' second starting wide receiver. Well, he certainly is now because the Falcons have cut Jenkins.
A first-round pick in 2004, Jenkins has been a frustrating commodity for fantasy owners as he never recorded more than 55 receptions or 800 yards in a single season. His best fantasy season came in 2008 -- 50 receptions, 777 yards and three touchdowns.
Fantasy Analysis:
Releasing Jenkins saved the Falcons $4.1 million. With him gone, Harry Douglas probably stands to see more snaps. But this is mainly going to be a Roddy White-Julio Jones show on the outside. White is obviously a stud and perhaps the No. 1 WR in many fantasy drafts this summer. I consider Jones a nice mid-round pick considering all of the strong offensive players surrounding him. He should have a lot of room to roam free as defenders' attention is taken up elsewhere.
