Report: Dolphins to sign QB Matt Moore to 2-year contract

While discussing Cam Newton during yesterday's FFToolbox podcast, me and host Ben Standig wondered aloud what had ever become of Matt Moore @mattmoore_8. I jokingly asked if he was dead. And less than 20 hours later, look who's back in the news cycle. According to a report in The Oregonian, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback will sign a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins today. The report states that the deal is worth $5 million but could push to to $7.5 million with incentives, mostly based on playing time. Moore opened last season as the Panthers' starting quarterback. That didn't last long, and he played in just six games for the season, throwing 10 interceptions and five touchdowns. His brightest stretch as a pro came when he replaced an injured and error-prone Jake Delhomme near the end of the 2009 season. In the final three games, he threw seven touchdowns, zero interceptions and completed 66 percent of his passes.

Fantasy Analysis:

Kyle Orton insurance? I wouldn't bet on it. Moore is not a starting quarterback -- or at least he shouldn't be. He will head into Dolphins' camp to battle Chad Henne for the gig. But I still expect the Dolphins to add a more high-profile (read: better) quarterback. However, this Orton-to-Miami deal has certainly come to a crawl after reports a couple of days ago stated that a trade could be hours if not minutes away. Miami's current backup QBs are Tom Brandstater and Pat Devlin.
