Bengals bring back RB Cedric Benson on 1-year deal

Two things were assumed about Cedric Benson @Cedric_Benson's immediate future in football this offseason: One, it was likely he would re-sign with the Bengals. And two, his multiple run-ins with the law would probably erase any potential market there was for his services elsewhere. On Sunday, we found out both were true to some extent. Unable to find work -- or a compelling offer -- from another team, Benson signed a one-year contract with the Bengals worth $3 million and as much as $5 million total through incentives. Benson rushed a career-high 321 times last season for 1,111 yards and seven touchdowns.

Fantasy Analysis:

So Benson will enter another contract year. But I don't think it matters; he's about to be run into the ground by Marvin Lewis. With a rookie or Bruce Gradkowski starting at quarterback, the onus falls on Benson to basically be the offense. Considering how very average he was when Carson Palmer, Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens were playing with him, just imagine how he'll disappoint with Andy Dalton, A.J. Green and Jerome Simpson around. Defenses across the league will be focused just on Benson when playing the Bengals. And considering he has carried the ball at least 300 times in each of the past two seasons, odds are he'll be injured for a while at some point this year. He's outside of my top 30 at RB.
