QB Derek Anderson will next throw interceptions for Carolina Panthers
Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen on the same team? Stop laughing. That combination has become a reality after Anderson agreed to a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers on Monday. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed. Among quarterbacks who threw at least 200 passes last year, Anderson's 51.7 completion percentage was the league's lowest while Clausen's 52.5 was the second-lowest percentage. Clausen's QB rating was 58.4. Who had the second worst? Of course it was Anderson with his 65.9. Yet, according to the Charlotte Observer, Anderson was signed "to fill a veteran void at the position, and perhaps bridge the gap until (Cam) Newton is ready to start."
Fantasy Analysis:
I understand the Panthers' QBs are pretty green, but I'm not sure you want to be learning the position from one of the worst to play the position over the past three years. Since the start of the 2008 season, Anderson has thrown 19 touchdowns and 28 interceptions, and hasn't seen his completion percentage rise above 52. Maybe he'll pass Clausen on the depth chart, but I still fully expect Newton to be the Panthers' starter on Sept. 11 versus the Arizona Cardinals. But if he gets injured or the coaches decide to sit him down -- watch out! It's going to get ugly.
