Bears' Mike Martz predicting big things for WR Roy Williams

In 2006 while with the Detroit Lions, Roy Williams recorded the best production of his career -- 82 catches, 1,310 yards and six touchdowns, all of which are career-highs. It's probably no coincidence that the "mad scientist," Mike Martz, was the Lions' offensive coordinator that year. The two are together again after the Bears, with Martz as their offensive coordinator, signed Williams to a one-year contract last week. On Tuesday, Martz referred to Williams as an "elite player" and said he's expecting 70-80 receptions out of him. "That's why Roy's here, that's what we brought him here to do," Martz said. "That's what we would expect him to do and that's certainly what he would expect of himself."

Fantasy Analysis:

Only problem being that Williams hadn't caught 70 passes in any season prior to or since 2006. He's finished in the 30s for the past three years. Martz knows how to get the most out of Williams, who is just 29 years old. But to think that he's going to get 70-80 catches this year is a bit wishful. In my mind, Johnny Knox @Jknox13 is still the Bears' best WR. Williams might be No. 2, but that probably means he's a WR3 in fantasy at best. No Bears wideout other than Knox had more than 50 catches or 600 receiving yards last season. Granted, it's not the deepest group in terms of quality, but Williams shouldn't be considered a major upgrade.
