Matt Ryan says rookie RB Jacquizz Rodgers will be Falcons' third-down back

I try not to get caught up in coach speak, especially at this time of the year when all you read about is how impressive someone looks in camp or who's ahead of whom on the depth chart. But when a player speaks up, especially a team leader, I like to think there's a bit more truth in those words. With that disclaimer comes these words from Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan about rookie running back Jacquizz Rodgers @Qui22Rodgers: "He's gonna be the third-down back for us."

Fantasy Analysis:

Rodgers would seem to fit that role perfectly. He's kind of a Darren Sproles type -- very short and quick; an exceptional receiver out of the backfield. He caught 122 passes in his last two years at Oregon State, and it would seem that the Falcons would like to use that ability as soon as this season. Now it comes down to how quickly he learns the system and if he can stay healthy. Rodgers may be a guy to target late in PPR drafts, but he doesn't have much value right now in standard leagues. While Rodgers isn't a true backup for someone such as Michael Turner, this may be another signal that the Falcons are not going to re-sign Jason Snelling @JSNELZ44.
