Redskins cut RB Ryan Torain
With the emergence of rookie running backs Roy Helu
and Evan Royster
, it looks as though the Washington Redskins are more confident with their stable of running backs. The organization cut RB Ryan Torain
on Tuesday and Mike Shanahan explained the decision. "What you look for is consistency at every position," Shanahan said. "The people that are consistent get more opportunities. If you're not consistent, you don't get as many opportunities to show us what you can do."
Fantasy Analysis:
Keep in mind that Shanahan actually drafted Torain in the 2008 NFL Draft while he was with the Denver Broncos so he's seen all there is to see through multiple years. I'm sure to some extent it wasn't an easy choice for the long-time head coach anyway because he's given Torain multiple chances as the starter but his health and aforementioned consistency weren't there. The Redskins have two young, promising backs to build around for their future. Helu is dinged up and Royster is expected to start in Week 17.
