Titans' head coach says RB Chris Johnson has 'lost a step'
This was pretty obvious while watching Chris Johnson
during the 2011 season, but his head coach has come right out and said the Tennessee Titans' star runner has indeed lost some speed.
"Is he a step slower? Yeah, I'm sure he is," Mike Munchak said of Johnson. "I don't know how you would measure that exactly, but I'm sure he has (lost some speed)."
Fantasy Analysis:
Well, yeah. Johnson isn't physically built to take a lot of punishment, but he's accumulated nearly 1,400 touches in his first four seasons. That amount of work is going to take its toll on anyone. We've already seen Johnson's best; there's no going back to 2,000 rushing yards. But with some improved blocking and self-conditioning, Johnson should be able to rack up at least 1,500 yards from scrimmage for a few more years. We'll see if the Titans pick up his $8 million base salary this March, but I think they will keep him, and Johnson remains their unquestioned running back. Johnson isn't at the top of the class, but he should be a first-round pick in 2012 drafts.
