Jaguars sign WR Laurent Robinson to 5-year, $32.5 million contract
Wide receiver Laurent Robinson
turned his one productive NFL season into a fat contract, handed out by a team desperate for receivers to help its very green quarterback. The Jacksonville Jaguars gave Robinson a $32.5 million deal Wednesday with $14 million guaranteed. The contract is five years long, the length of Robinson's career thus far. Before 2011, Robinson had a total of 89 receptions in four years for 1,000 yards and four touchdowns. Then, during his one season with the Cowboys, Robinson set career-highs across the board with 54 catches for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Fantasy Analysis:
Robinson has been on three teams in five years. He's been dogged by injuries and hasn't shown the ability to be a No. 1 WR. But the Jags are paying him to play like one. Sure, they need someone for Blaine Gabbert
to target -- what, you don't like Mike Thomas and Jarett Dillard? Robinson turned into a WR2 with Tony Romo and the Cowboys, but the situation is much different in J-Ville. Unless he improves by leaps and bounds, Gabbert will hurt Robinson's value. Right now, Robinson is a rich guy with something to prove. And I don't think he can repeat his 2011 success. Don't buy in here.
