RB Peyton Hillis joins Chiefs on 1-year deal

Two years ago, Peyton Hillis @thepeytonhillis was a fantasy football darling. How bad has it gotten for him since then? In this time with funny money being thrown around the league and players getting overpaid left and right in free agency, Hillis settled for a one-year "prove it" deal from the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. The deal is worth a relatively low $3 million. Hillis gained just 587 yards in 10 games last season.

Fantasy Analysis:

Hillis may act as insurance in case Jamaal Charles @jcharles25' rehab from ACL surgery comes along slowly. But if Charles is ready by September -- and the early feeling is that he will be -- Hillis will fill the role that was held by Thomas Jones in previous years; Hillis will be the team's goal-line and short-yardage runner. That takes away from Charles' value a bit, but touchdowns aren't really where his bread is buttered. If he's healthy, he'll still get about 20 touches per game and should be explosive enough to still rack up RB1 yardage numbers. Hillis should be drafted as a backup. And with him out of Cleveland, you have to think the Browns are looking at Trent Richardson in the draft.
