Martellus Bennett fills Giants' TE void
Probably lost in the euphoria of the New York Giants' thrilling Super Bowl victory was the fact that they saw not one, but two tight ends fell by ACL tears. Jake Ballard
and Travis Beckum
will most likely still be on the mend when the 2012 season kicks off, so the Giants addressed their need at tight end by signing former Dallas Cowboy Martellus Bennett
on Wednesday. He was brought in on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million. A second-round pick in 2008, Bennett hasn't scored a touchdown since his rookie season and has just 85 catches to his name. But he has been playing second fiddle to Jason Witten.
Fantasy Analysis:
Bennett is a physical specimen and just 25 years old. This could be a steal of a pickup for the Giants considering that Bennett is certainly a better athlete than both Ballard and Beckum. He's been a disappointment so far in his career, but he will be given a big opportunity as the Giants' odds-on starter at TE to begin the 2012 season. He's an interesting sleeper at this point.
