Chargers -- not Redskins -- sign WR Eddie Royal
It was reported a couple of days ago that the Washington Redskins had signed wide receiver Eddie Royal
along with Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. While the latter two are indeed Redskins, something fell through with Royal. Instead, it has been confirmed that the fifth-year wideout from Virginia Tech has signed with the San Diego Chargers. Specifically, Royal signed a three-year contract worth $13.5 million on Thursday. The deal includes $6 million guaranteed.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Chargers have lost Vincent Jackson and made up for it for by signing Robert Meachem and now Royal. Not bad, although Royal may be used more as a kick returner than as a slot receiver. However, Philip Rivers' weapons with Meachem, Royal, Vincent Brown, Antonio Gates, and Malcom Floyd -- I don't know why I keep forgetting about him -- look much better than they did 48 hours ago. Royal's fantasy value will be very low to begin the 2012 season.
