UPDATE: QB Tim Tebow traded to Jets for 2 draft picks
Update: After many hours of uncertainty, during which Tebow was a Jet, then he wasn't, then he was reportedly close to becoming a Jaguar, then he was going to get to pick between his two suitors ... Tebow ended up with the Jets after all. It's official. The Jets and Broncos have overcome the day's hurdle by coming to agreement that the Jets will pay half of Tebow's $5 million salary advance. All of the other terms are the same.
-----------
One of the league's most popular and its most polarizing player is headed to The Big Apple. The New York Jets acquired quarterback Tim Tebow
from the Denver Broncos on Wednesday for a fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick. The Broncos will also send a seventh-round pick. Tebow became expendable in Denver following the Peyton Manning signing. Tebow took over a floundering Broncos team in week seven last season and won seven of his first eight games, guided the Broncos to an AFC West title, and won a playoff game
Fantasy Analysis:
OK, let's get this out of the way: That's a pretty fair price for a quarterback such as Tebow. And from a fantasy standpoint, Tebow isn't going to hold much value initially because It sounds like the Jets will use him in special packages, especially in short-yardage situations to help with their "ground and pound" plan. He's not going after Mark Sanchez
's job, and might not even be the No. 2 QB on the depth chart.
With that being said, what a freaking circus that team is going to be. Tebow talk is already excessive as it is; now he's going to be in the country's biggest market. And as soon as Sanchez inevitably struggles, all of the calls and clamor for Tebow to replace Sanchez are going to come at a nauseating rate. Copy editors who write those back-page headlines in NYC are going to have a field day. Plus, as much as the Jets wanted to rebuild the attitude in their locker room, they might have set themselves back with this move since Jets players -- Antonio Cromartie -- have already been vocal about how the team doesn't need or want him.
What a circus. You can almost hear the music ....
