RB Michael Bush goes to Bears for 4 years, $14 million
The Chicago Bears have picked up strong insurance in the event that Matt Forte
is serious about holding out this summer. The Bears signed former Raiders running back Michael Bush
on Thursday to a four-year contract worth $14 million, including $7 million guaranteed. Bush played second fiddle to Darren McFadden for most of his time in Oakland, but when asked to fill in for the oft-injured star, Bush displayed qualities of a true starting running back. Last year was Bush's best statistical season as he ran for 977 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 37 passes.
Fantasy Analysis:
This can't make Forte or his agent happy at all. Forte is not pleased with the franchise tag and is threatening a holdout if he doesn't get a new contract. But the Bears have now called his bluff. While this move means Marion Barber
will be sent packing, the Bears' running game should be just fine with Bush and Kahlil Bell
for as long as Forte wants to exclude himself. And they got Bush at a pretty cheap rate. Assuming that Forte does participate in camp and plays in 16 games this year, He may still be a borderline RB1. But Bush will definitely take away from his touchdown value, along with some other carries here and there as well. Bell would then be Chicago's No. 3 RB.
