Broncos will not retain Correll Buckhalter
According to the Denver Post, in a less-than-surprising move, the Broncos have informed Correll Buckhalter that they will not keep him. At least, not at the $1.92 million rate that he was scheduled to earn this season.
Buckhalter averaged 5.4 yards over his 120 carries in 2009, but his second season in Denver was an ugly bust -- 59 carries, 147 yards.
Buckhalter's age -- he will turn 33 in October -- may have also spelled his doom in Denver. The team already has three younger backs in Knowshon Moreno , Lance Ball and LenDale White under contract. And it's no secret that the Broncos want to make a big splash in the RB free-agent market.
Fantasy Analysis:
I owned Moreno last year, so when he got hurt, I found myself scrambling to pick up the likes of Buckhalter and Laurence Maroney. Brutal, to say the least. This may be the end of the road for Correll.
Ironically enough, the Post is reporting that the Broncos are interested in Willis McGahee, who was told earlier on Monday that he will be released by the Ravens when cuts can be made starting Thursday.
However, if all of the rumors and sources are true, a much bigger name will be arriving in Denver's backfield soon enough.
