Malcom Floyd and Darren Sproles unlikely to re-sign with Chargers

The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that it is "virtually certain" that wide receiver Malcom Floyd and reserve running back Darren Sproles @DarrenSproles are done with the Chargers. It has been rumored that San Diego is interested in making a play for Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith. Floyd missed five games and was relatively inconsistent while filling in for Vincent Jackson, who was holding out for the better majority of the 2010 season. Sproles is entering his seventh NFL season, but was sparingly used as a third-down back last year. Since the Chargers drafted rookie Jordan Todman and still have second-year back Ryan Mathews and goal-line stud Mike Tolbert, there simply may not be enough money for Sproles as a RB4 on the depth chart.

Fantasy Analysis:

The high-powered San Diego passing attack is what gave Floyd most of his Fantasy value. His aforementioned inconsistency and penchant for injury made him a high-risk/high-reward sleeper while on the Chargers roster, but with another team, he'll need to find a great fit to make it work. One solid free agency option may be Kansas City, if they're looking to add a receiver. He has the right size and frame to fit in well with that receiver corps, but that's merely speculation at this point. For Sproles, he's still a solid and durable third-down back. He had career-highs both in receptions (59) and receiving yards (520) last season to go along with two touchdowns.
