Report: Titans will make 'huge' offer to Matt Hasselbeck
It's just a report and it's just an offer, but this may be the start of something very real.
NFL Network's Michael Lombardi said on air a few minutes ago that the Tennessee Titans will basically go all-in on Matt Hasselbeck . His exact adjective to describe their upcoming contract offer: "Huge."
Lombardi's NFL Network colleague Jason La Canfora also thinks Tennessee are the favorites to land Hasselbeck, and Matt's brother, TIm, said Tuesday on ESPN that Matt will consider the Titans if "he gets a better offer to play in Tennessee that's on a legitimate 2- or 3-year deal and not a deal that is really just a one-year deal."
Fantasy Analysis:
However, if Hasselbeck is brought to Tennessee, it would probably be on a one-year basis as Jake Locker takes a season to watch and learn. Plus, Hasselbeck could return to Seattle given his familiarity with the team and the shortened offseason. Many other teams are reported to be interested in him as well.
Hasselbeck, who will turn 31 in September, has been nothing more than an average NFL QB over the past three seasons. But with Locker, Rusty Smith and Brett Ratliff on the Titans' roster, he would certainly be a better, more stable option for 2011. And that's good news for the likes of Kenny Britt and Chris Johnson.
