Jaguars' Marcedes Lewis: holdout still possible

It was just one day, but it was a day in which Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis @MarcedesLewis89 didn't show up to the team's facilities. According to the Florida Times-Union, Lewis "might not report" as he waits for a contract extension. Lewis was slapped with the franchise tag shortly before the lockout. It's worth about $7.3 million, but Lewis has gone on record saying he wants more financial security. In June, Lewis told Pro Football Weekly, "Who wants to play under a one-year contract? That's not cool. ... Especially when you have played five years and given your sweat, blood and tears to the team and laid it out there every Sunday, putting your body on the line. Obviously, it is what it is. I am just sitting here, being patient and trusting that we are going to get it done."

Fantasy Analysis:

This shouldn't be too much of a problem since Jaguars general manager Gene Smith has said he wants to give Lewis that long-term deal. It seems to be one of the team's top priorities, so Lewis should be working out with his teammates soon enough. But we'll keep you updated if otherwise. Lewis is a top-10 tight end in fantasy. That could change a little depending upon who breaks camp as the team's starting QB -- Blaine Gabbert or David Garrard?
