Kevin Boss feeling good after hip surgery, wants to stay with Giants
Tight end Kevin Boss is an unrestricted free agent, but the Giants are certainly looking to re-sign him. As they should, considering Boss has been undervalued -- and perhaps underused -- lately. In the past three seasons, 25.5 percent of Boss' receptions went for 20 or more yards. Also, 14.6 percent of his receptions over that same period resulted in touchdowns. Both of those stats rank him first among NFL tight ends. He is also a solid blocker.
Luckily for the Giants, Boss wants to come back.
"My No. 1 priority is to re-sign long-term with the Giants," Boss said in a Tuesday radio interview. "My agent and I are doing everything we can to make that happen."
Boss underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip, an injury that's bothered Boss since he was at Western Oregon. He said the surgery has helped improve his strength and flexibility.
"This is the best I've felt in a while," he said. "I had hip surgery this offseason back in January and I'm completely recovered. It's a blessing because my hips are stronger because of it."
Fantasy Analysis:
Boss' stats aren't overwhelming -- he set career-highs in 2009 with 42 catches and 567 yards. He has scored at least five touchdowns in each of the past three seasons. But if the Giants don't re-sign fellow UFA Steve Smith, Boss could see a sizable gain in his targets and receptions.
