49ers' Frank Gore planning his own holdout
Chris Johnson, DeSean Jackson Marcedes Lewis and now Frank Gore -- it's been a big couple of days for possible high-profile holdouts. The latest threat comes from Gore via a tweet by ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday. "Consider this a welcome-to-the-NFL moment for 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh: RB Frank Gore is planning to hold out when SF reports to camp." Gore is entering the final season of his current contract. He is owed $2.9 million in base salary.
Fantasy Analysis:
I know people are upset at seeing these millionaires hold out for more money after a four-month lockout. But I am not going to get too concerned right now. This isn't a Carson Palmer situation; the general manager and coaches of the respective teams understand how important someone like a Chris Johnson or DeSean Jackson or Frank Gore is to their franchise's success. Most teams haven't even opened training camp, so let's see where this goes before any overreaction. If we reach late August without these players in camp, then it might be time to worry. And we'll let you know when these players do show up for good.
Specifically, for the 49ers, rookie running back Kendall Hunter would see more playing time if Gore is really serious with this holdout.
