WR Sidney Rice agrees to 5-year deal with Seahawks
Santonio Holmes, maybe the best wideout on the free-agent market, decided to stay home Wednesday.
Sidney Rice , maybe the second-best wideout on the free-agent market, is on the move. About 20 minutes ago, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer tweeted that Rice and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed on a five-year contract. ESPN's Adam Schefter followed a few minutes later on Twitter with financial parameters of the deal: $44 million over those five years with $18 million guaranteed.
By joining Seattle, Rice reunites with former Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson
and former Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
Fantasy Analysis:
Wow. Well, the Seahawks got their man on the outside. All of that money that they didn't really want to hand over to one of the market's top QBs goes to a big-time wide receiver. Rice forms a nice duo with Mike Williams, but Rice is a much more prominent deep threat. Now, who's going to throw them the ball? And no matter if it is Jackson or Charlie Whitehurst, that doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence in fantasy owners. Both of those guys, if history is any guide, will have a tough time connecting with Rice on a consistent basis. Rice would have been better off staying in Minnesota with Adrian Peterson and Donovan McNabb . But he's also not going to turn down $18 million guaranteed.
And in Minnesota, who's going to line up next to Percy Harvin
? You have to think the Vikings will now try to acquire someone such as Braylon Edwards.
