Chiefs sign rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin
The Chiefs and first-round pick Jonathan Baldwin have agreed to a four-year deal, according to the Kansas City Star. Baldwin signed the deal today, the first day of Chiefs training camp. The wide receiver from Pittsburgh was the 26th pick in the 2011 draft.
Fantasy Analysis:
When the Chiefs signed Steve Breaston a couple of days ago, I said here that Kansas City must think that Baldwin is only ready to be an end-zone target in his rookie year. I thought that addition pretty much squashed his fantasy value. But since then, multiple outlets closely plugged into the team, including the Star, have stated that Baldwin will be the team's No. 2 WR, playing across the field from Dwayne Bowe
. Breaston will be the No. 3, working out of the slot. That brightens Baldwin's value a bit, but this is still a run-first offense with Matt Cassel at quarterback. Bowe is a fine fantasy player; Breaston and Baldwin, no matter who starts, are more like mid-to-late-round picks. I just don't see two wide receivers out of this particular offense being big fantasy contributors.
