No. 1 pick Cam Newton signs with Panthers

Wanna see how much impact the rookie pay scale will have on the NFL's newcomers? Cam Newton @CameronNewton, the No. 1 pick in April's draft and one of the most talked about prospects in league history, just signed a contract worth more than $50 million dollars less than the one signed by Sam Bradford last year. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter via a source, Newton and the Panthers agreed Friday to terms on a four-year, $22 million deal, which is fully guaranteed. Bradford got a six-year, $78 million deal with $50 million guaranteed.

Fantasy Analysis:

Take a look around at all of the moves the Panthers have made this week -- re-signing DeAngelo Williams, re-signing Charles Johnson, trading for Greg Olsen @gregolsen88, etc. You think they are enjoying this rookie pay scale just a little bit? I think Newton should start from day one, but he'll go into a training camp battle for the Panthers' starting QB gig against Jimmy Clausen @JimmyClausen. Newton is just a last-round pick in fantasy drafts. I've already said I don't think Steve Smith @89SteveSmith will be too productive with him this year, but I have very high hopes for Olsen as Newton's safety blanket.
