Ravens strengthen run game by adding RB Vonta Leach
You can't judge fullback Vonta Leach by the stats. He hasn't carried the ball since 2008 and is a minimal weapon as a pass-catching back. But he is extremely valuable and fans of the Baltimore Ravens, especially Ray Rice
, should be very pleased that Leach is now playing for them. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Leach signed a three-year, $11 million contract with the Ravens on Sunday. Six million dollars are guaranteed. Leach becomes the Ravens' full-time fullback, ready to clear the way for Rice. He spent the past five seasons with the Texans.
Fantasy Analysis:
And with that, you can pretty much close the book on the possibility of free agent Le'Ron McClain returning to Baltimore. Even though he is a good lead-blocking back, Leach is better. This does give Rice's value a slight nudge up as Leach is one of the best run-blocking fullbacks in the business. It's no coincidence that Arian Foster 's 2010 season came largely from running behind Leach. Speaking of which, the loss does hurt Foster a little bit.
