Rams' Steven Jackson wants more receptions this season

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson @sj39 has been one of the game's best multi-purpose running backs for the past seven seasons. He has caught at least 40 passes in all but one season of his career. But that's not enough for Jackson. He caught 90 passes 2006, and he wants to get back up to that level. "That's definitely part of my game that I've been missing the last couple of seasons," Jackson said about being more of a receiver. "I'm looking forward to having that challenge."

Fantasy Analysis:

Of course Jackson wants more work. But how much more can he take? He touched the ball 751 times over the past two seasons. And it seems to be taking a toll on him. Jackson's yards-per-carry average dropped to a career-low 3.8 last season. The Rams have upgraded their offensive line through free agency, but I just don't think Jackson, even at the young age of 28, can take another 350 touches and be expected to stay healthy and productive. His physical running style seems to have worn him down, albeit it not as quickly as someone such as Marion Barber. I think Jackson is a clear RB2. Anyone drafting him as something more needs to realize that this is a different guy from the one we saw in 2006.
