Saints RB Mark Ingram to have toe surgery, placed on injured reserve

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram @MarkIngram22 didn't play in the final four games of the regular season, and he won't be available for the postseason as well. Ingram needs surgery on his injured toe, so the team placed him on injured reserve Sunday. It looked like Ingram had a chance to play in week 17, but he reportedly suffered a setback with his toe during the practice week. Ingram racked up 474 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 122 carries during his rookie campaign.

Fantasy Analysis:

Chris Ivory @ivory33 will continue to play on early downs in place of Ingram.
When he was on the field, Ingram looked pretty good in 2011, running effectively inside and in short-yardage situations. But he missed six games due to separate foot injuries -- first, a bruised heel and then the turf toe. Those injury concerns will follow him into 2012, but he should be ready for training camp. With Darren Sproles @DarrenSproles and Pierre Thomas @Pierre_Thomas under contract, Ingram's fantasy value has a low ceiling. It's obvious that he's talented, but Ingram is stuck in a committee until something changes.
