Josh McDaniels rejoins Patriots, will become OC next season

Imagine if NFL players could do what Josh McDaniels did on Saturday. McDaniels, who was the offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams for the regular season, agreed to return to the New England Patriots on Saturday and will fill the role of offensive assistant during these playoffs. He will then take over as the team's offensive coordinator after the season to replace Bill O'Brien, who is headed to Penn State. For the rest of this season, O'Brien will continue calling the plays while McDaniels watches film and gives insight into the Steelers and Ravens -- a couple of possible playoff opponents for Patriots who McDaniels saw while with the Rams.

Fantasy Analysis:

McDaniels was under contract with St. Louis through the 2012 season, but the team did not ask for compensation for this unprecedented move. McDaniels was the Patriots' offensive coordinator from 2006-2008. He called the plays during the season when Tom Brady threw for 50 touchdowns. Granted, the Rams' offense was pathetic this season, McDaniels knows this cast, and it's obviously much more talented. The Patriots will remain a pass-first team with McDaniels, and his presence should mean continued good things for everyone involved in their aerial attack.
