Lions make Calvin Johnson the richest WR
The most dominating wide receiver in the NFL right now will be staying in Detroit for a long time ... and for a LOT of money. The Lions and Calvin Johnson agreed to terms on a new contract Wednesday. Those terms? How about $132 million over the next eight years, including $60 million guaranteed. That guaranteed money number tops the $50 million given to Sam Bradford in his rookie contract of 2010. And the overall money is more than the $120 million that was given to Larry Fitzgerald last year. At the time, that was the richest contract ever given to a wide receiver. Not any longer. In 2011, Johnson put up more than 1,600 yards with 16 touchdowns, including eight in the first four games of the season.
Fantasy Analysis:
No doubt, $60 million is an eye-popping amount of guaranteed money. But it's hard to say that it's not worth it for Calvin Johnson, who is still just 26 years old. He is an amazing force with a great quarterback in Matthew Stafford
. He does face the usual nicks and pains, but he's shown the toughness to play through them. He's a sure-fire first-round fantasy pick and one of the most enjoyable players to own just because of how unstoppable he can be when he's at his best.
