Bears acquire WR Brandon Marshall, reunite him with QB Jay Cutler

In their long, long, long history, the Chicago Bears have been about to tout just 11 1,000-yard receivers. They've had just two such players since the turn of the millennium. To address this dearth, the Bears completed a trade Tuesday for a receiver with five 1,000-yard seasons in his six-year career. The Bears acquired Brandon Marshall @BMarshall from the Miami Dolphins for a pair of third-round picks. Marshall will be reunited with Jay Cutler @JayCutler6, his quarterback from 2006-2008 while both played for the Denver Broncos. Marshall topped 100 catches and 1,200 yards in two of those three seasons.

Fantasy Analysis:

Soon after this trade was made public, word broke that Marshall had been involved in a nightclub fight with a woman over the weekend. We'll see how that plays out, but right now, let's just stick to what this deal means for fantasy. Simply, it's a much-needed addition for the Bears, who desperately need a go-to wideout and know that their leading wide receiver from 2011 -- Johnny Knox with all of 37 receptions -- is coming off a major injury. It's certainly a boost for Cutler, but this should make Marshall a WR1 because of his talent, familiarity with his quarterback, and he's playing in a division with some pretty bad pass defenses.
I guess that all the Dolphins are doing is bailing on a headache of a player for the price of something, anything. They are now extremely thin at WR.
