WR Reggie Wayne stays with Colts on 3-year deal
Everyone else from the old guard is either jumping from or being thrown off of the Indianapolis Colts' ship. A massive rebuilding process is set to get underway. Maybe that's why it was so surprising to learn Tuesday night that 33-year-old free-agent wideout Reggie Wayne
had re-signed to stay in Indy for three more years. His new contract is worth $17.5 million. Wayne will most likely become Andrew Luck's favorite target next season.
Fantasy Analysis:
But considering Wayne turns 34 this November, it's fair to wonder how much of his step(s) he has lost. Granted, the Colts' QB situation was an unmitigated disaster last season. But Wayne's yards per catch average has been slowly declining over the past three or four years. The impact of age is certainly starting to kick in for him. Luck may be the best QB prospect since some guy named Elway, but he's still just a rookie and heading to a Colts team that is going to be lacking talent. Specifically, Wayne is going to be lacking any viable threat on the other side of the field to take defensive attention away from him, so he'll probably see a lot of double coverage coming up. I think he's a low-end WR2 heading into the 2012 season and trending down.
