WR Hines Ward retires after 14 seasons
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward
announced his retirement from football Tuesday.
"Today, I'm officially retiring a Pittsburgh Steeler," Ward said. "And as much as I will miss football, my teammates, coaches and everything about the game, I don't want to play it in any other uniform. The black and gold runs deep in me, and I will remain a Steeler for life."
Ward was released by the Steelers after last season and was unable to catch on with any other team. He hangs it up with 1,000 career catches -- the most in Steelers history -- 12,083 receiving yards and 85 touchdown receptions. He also made it to the Pro Bowl four times, won two Super Bowls and was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XL.
Fantasy Analysis:
It was clearly time for Ward to move on. He was never a dominant receiver, but he was an ultra-reliable possession WR and one of the best blockers at his position for an extended period of time. His consistent numbers and the length of his career may be enough for Ward to end up in Canton
