Broncos sign TEs Joel Dreessen, Jacob Tamme
The Denver Broncos definitely had a need for pass-catching tight ends, so on Friday, they signed a pair of such players. Denver came to terms with Joel Dreessen and Jacob Tamme
. both signed three-year deals, with Tamme getting a little higher salary ($9 million to $8.5 million).
Dreessen was more of blocker than a receiver in his five years with the Houston Texans, but he has scored a total of 10 touchdowns over the past two seasons. Tamme was an unknown commodity until an injury to Dallas Clark thrust him into the Colts' starting lineup in 2010. In nine games that season, Tamme caught 67 passes for 631 yards and four touchdowns. Now, he and Peyton Manning have been reunited.
Fantasy Analysis:
I think Tamme is intriguing here given his past with Manning and Peyton's affinity for his tight ends. Tamme has already shown that he can be a valuable PPR target with Manning, so while he may have to fight for the starting job -- the Broncos also have three tight ends besides the two newbies on the current roster -- he could turn into a TE sleeper for 2012. Dreessen will probably stay in his role as a blocker who is used as a receiver mainly down by the goal line.
