Sunday morning inactives, week 16: Roy Helu, Kevin Kolb, etc.
Don't get cute. Put your best lineup in. Feel confident. Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose. Today, go get your championship. To help you out, we'll have all of the latest news regarding today's actives and inactives. And there are a bunch of injured players to watch in the early games. Among them: Chris Johnson
, Beanie Wells, Michael Bush and Kevin Kolb
, all of whom are listed as questionable. Keep refreshing this post throughout the morning to see who's in and who's out.
Chris Russell of ESPN Radio in Washington is reporting that Evan Royster
will have a "huge" role in today's game versus the Vikings and "might even start" over Roy Helu
. Nothing will be confirmed for another 30 minutes or so, but this is obviously bad news for Helu's owners. The matchup versus Minnesota isn't all that favorable, and you know how Shanahan is dealing with running backs. He is turning into a very risky flex for those in standard leagues.
Chris Johnson is active and starting today against Jacksonville. However, I think he's a low-end RB2 with an ankle that is less than 100 percent. I think you still have to play him in 12-team leagues with 2 RBs and a flex, but I don't feel confident about him.
Updating that previous story about Helu, Roy Helu is OUT for today's game versus Minnesota. Evan Royster will get the start and presumably a good amount of touches. However, he's nothing more than a risky flex play.
Stevie Johnson is active for the Bills despite a groin injury. He'll be matched up against Champ Bailey, but he's overcome bad matchups earlier this season. He's a fine WR3 or a low-end WR2.
Beanie Wells is active for the Cardinals. He was listed as questionable with a knee injury, but that's old hat for him. He's a bland RB2 today in a so-so matchup. You're basically hoping for a TD from him to make him look like a good play.
In that same game, Bengals WR A.J. Green is active despite a shoulder injury. Amazing recovery by the rookie from a Grade 3 shoulder sprain. He's still a must-start.
Raiders RB Michael Bush is active against the Chiefs. He was questionable on the injury report, but the Raiders were just giving him some rest. Bush is a top-10 RB this week.
As expected, Ben Roethlisberger is active for the Steelers but will not start. Charlie Batch gets the call. As I said yesterday, the entire Steelers passing game gets a downgrade. Rashard Mendenhall should get all he can handle against that porous Rams run D.
Tight end Marcedes Lewis is active for the Jaguars. You shouldn't want to play him.
As expected, Mario Manningham
won't play for the Giants today. Ramses Barden will see some snaps in his place, but he's not worth an add today.
Willis McGahee is active for the Broncos. He practiced all week after missing some time last Sunday because of a nagging hamstring. He is a fantastic start today back in his old stomping grounds against a Bills defense that can't stop the run at all.
Quarterback Sam Bradford is out for the Rams. It would be a surprise if he played again this season. Kellen Clemens will get another start, this week in Pittsburgh. That's probably not the best of news for Brandon Lloyd owners.
Maurice Jones-Drew is active despite missing some practice time during the week with an ankle injury. He's going to tear up the Titans' run defense today.
Kevin Kolb is inactive for the Cardinals today, meaning that John Skelton gets another start. The matchup versus Cincy is favorable for Larry Fitzgerald, and he has been more productive with Skelton rather than Kolb under center.
Wes Welker and BenJarvus Green-Ellis are active for the Patriots. Welker is a must-start against the Dolphins, but you don't need me to tell you that. BJG-E is a much riskier play against the Dolphins' stellar run defense. He's a desperate flex play for me.
Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw is active. He was listed as probable on the injury report. However, he's just a low-end RB2 against the Jets.
Deion Branch is also active for the Patriots. He didn't play last week because of a groin injury. He is only a flex option in the very deepest of leagues. And not a great one at that.
Brandon Marshall is active for the Dolphins despite a knee injury. He is a must-start against the Patriots, a team with a horrible pass defense, and a team that Marshall has historically played well against.
Kicker Billy Cundiff is inactive for the Ravens because of a calf injury. So, yeah. Shayne Graham gets the call.
Tight end Scott Chandler is active for the Bills. But he's just a TE2.
Wide receiver Nate Washington is active for the Titans despite his ankle injury. He has an amazing matchup against Jacksonville's injury-riddled secondary. However, Matt Hasselbeck is still starting at QB for Tennessee, which does no Titans receiver any favors. Washington is fine as a WR3.
Wide receiver Andre Caldwell is inactive for the Bengals because of a groin injury. You're already starting A.J. Green, but Jerome Simpson is a decent sleeper today against Arizona's pass defense.
Wide receiver Mike Thomas is active for the Jaguars. He's missed some time due to a concussion, but he shouldn't be on your roster at this point.
Players who have already been ruled out for week 16, championship week, include Anquan Boldin, Greg Jennings, Darren McFadden, Jake Ballard and Anthony Fasano.
Fantasy Analysis:
Anquan Boldin had knee surgery earlier this week to repair a torn meniscus and won't play again until the playoffs. For this week, it's probably best to just avoid the Ravens' passing game against the Browns. Torrey Smith will probably see a lot of Joe Haden, and Ray Rice can handle this one by himself.
With Greg Jennings out because of his sprained knee, Aaron Rodgers and Co. looked out of sorts last week in Kansas City. His accuracy suddenly disappeared. The Packers may rest their starters tomorrow night if the San Francisco 49ers lose on Saturday, making this situation even more muddled. If I had to bet on a Packers WR, I would go with Donald Driver. However, i think Jermichael Finley will be the best Packers receiver against the Bears.
According to some reports, Darren McFadden still might play in week 17. Don't hold your breath.
The Giants will be without tight end Jake Ballard, an underrated weapon, especially against a Jets defense that is struggling at safety. Ballard has a knee injury. Travis Beckum and Bear Pascoe will fill in for him but are not fantasy options.
Anthony Fasano scored last week for the Dolphins, but he has been ruled out for week 16 because of a concussion.
