49ers add RB Brandon Jacobs
After seven years with the New York Giants, running back Brandon Jacobs
is switching coasts. The big back has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Jacobs, who turns 30 in July, ran for just 571 yards last season, his lowest total since 2006. He'll play backup to Frank Gore.
Fantasy Analysis:
I guess he's also injury insurance for Gore, but at Jacobs' age, he pretty much should be used solely as a short-yardage and goal-line runner. If he didn't like how little he was used in New York at times, he's certainly not going to be happy for long in San Fran because even when Gore isn't taking the touches, Kendall Hunter
will be in there on third downs. Jacobs will need an injury to occur here to become fantasy relevant. The biggest loser with this news is Gore. Yes, the Niners are trying to help him stay healthy for the long haul by lightening his load, but he'll probably lose more than a few TDs this season because of Jacobs.
